Northumberland Ghostly Hitch-hiker ?

Perched on the side of a rural road, a ‘phantom hitchhiker’ gave pals Rob Davies and Chris Felton a spooky surprise.

The ghostly sight of a man all in beige seeking a lift near Belsay in Northumberland left the Gateshead radio presenters in for a sleepless night.

The pair claim the man was dressed in RAF gear as he emerged late at night – and they have since discovered that he was stood close to where an air force jet crashed during the Second World War.

Rob, from Whickham, and Chris, from Birtley, had been out recording a piece on the anniversary of the Battle of Otterburn and were heading home along the A696 just after 11.30pm on Wednesday when they spotted the unusual figure.

Rob, 27, said: “We saw a man standing at the side of the road. We both actually jumped at first because we didn’t see him until very late.

“He was dressed in a beige colour from head to toe. He was sticking his arm out for a lift, but we could not stop in time due to being at 60mph.”

Rob claims the man’s eyes did not reflect the car’s lights and added: “Chris, who was driving, decided to turn around for him but we both agreed that he looked a bit odd. We were two miles north of the nearest village and there was nothing for miles.

“We said we would pick him up if he was real and just make sure he was dropped at the nearest village, and joked he might be a phantom hitchhiker.

“I started filming on my iPhone as it seemed a bit odd. We couldn’t remember how far back he was, but we saw him again and slowed.

“He was dressed in what I can only describe as RAF gear and was holding something under his arm, which looked like a helmet or some kind of bag.

“We had to turn again so we could pick him up.”

However, when they did so…

Mexican Demons attacked in covert operation

A few weeks have elapsed since Mexico became the first country in the world to be subjected to a covert mass exorcism – but we are still awaiting proof that its demons have fled to pastures new.

The Great Exorcism (exorcismo magno) took place in May, and was presided over by Cardinal Juan Sandoval Íñiguez, the Archbishop Emeritus of Guadalajara – and a man who was accused last year of inciting violence against Mexico’s gay community.

According to this report, high levels of violence, as well as drug cartels and abortion in the country, were the motivation behind the exorcism which was “carried out quietly” in the Cathedral of San Luis Potos, no doubt to take Satan and his hordes by surprise.

Íñiguez presided at the closed-door ceremony, which was also attended by Archbishop Jesús Carlos Cabrero of San Luis Potosí, Spanish demonologist and exorcist Father José Antonio Fortea and a smaller group of priests and laypeople.

The event was not made known to the general public beforehand. According to Archbishop Cabrero, the reserved character of the May 20 ceremony was intended to avoid any misguided interpretations of the ritual.

Fortea said that:

The exorcism performed in San Luís Potosí is the first ever carried out in Mexico in which the exorcists came from different parts of the country and gathered together to exorcise the powers of darkness, not from a person, but from the whole country. This rite of exorcism, beautiful and liturgical, had never before taken place in any part of the world.

Surrealism in Stockton

Taxi customers in Stockton were left utterly confused by a sign saying the rank was moving to a nonexistent street – on a nonexistent date!

The yellow works sign at the southern end of Stockton High Street said: “Taxi rank relocated to Bridge Street, Thursday 21st June, 1400-1600.”

One bemused cabbie said:

“Asked where is Bridge St.? Sorry says the taxi driver there isn’t one, but don’t worry the 21st does not fall on a Thursday until 2018.

“That will give our council time to build one.”

Stockton Council said the sign has now been removed and the relocated ranks will be on Bridge Road and Prince Regent Street.

Councillor David Rose, Cabinet member for regeneration and transport, explained:

“Due to the events being held to show our support for the Armed Forces in Stockton town centre on Thursday this sign was installed by a traffic management company to notify people that the taxi rank will be relocated while soldiers from the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers parade through the High Street.

“We are sorry to learn that the sign contained incorrect information and apologise for any inconvenience.”

Mystery Man’s ashes found buried in garden

Mystery surrounds the discovery of a casket, thought to contain the ashes of a North-East man, found buried in a back garden.

The wooden box has a cross and a plaque engraved with the words ‘Thomas Lawson Cox, died 15th June 2008’ and it is believed it holds his remains.

It was discovered buried in a shallow grave, wrapped in a plastic bag last week in the garden of Bill Stephenson, 70, of Wesley Terrace in Chester-le-Street, when a gardener was mowing the lawn.

The retired hospital telephonist said: “It was wrapped in a black bin liner and the lawn mower has ripped some of the top soil off as the gardener was cutting the grass. That is how we have seen it. I had no idea it was there.”

Mr Stephenson has lived in the house for 46 years and is keen to get to the bottom of how the casket came to be buried under grass.

He said: “I have no idea who he was or how he ended up in my garden. That is the big mystery.

“It is a big garden so it could have been done without me knowing.

“Someone could have sneaked in when it was dark, but why?”

Ghost at Berwick castle ruins?

This spooky photo was taken by Sharon Parkinson whilst on a train at Berwick station looking towards the ruins of the castle.

Train passenger Sharon Parkinson was passing through Berwick station when she noticed the castle ruins and thought it would make a nice picture.

“It wasn’t until later that night when I was looking through my photos that I noticed it,” she said. “Obviously it is some strange reflection that gives the appearance of a ghostly head, but it was a shock to say the least!”

Mysterious buttons appear on Newcastle doors

Police are reassuring West Jesmond, Newcastle upon Tyne,  residents after buttons mysteriously appeared on their doors.

Officers are investigating after receiving a number of reports about the sudden appearance of buttons on doors on Tuesday.

Newcastle Inspector Neil Brotherton said:

“We’ve had a number of reports from people who have found buttons temporarily stuck to their doors in the West Jesmond area this morning.

“It’s very unusual and we are carrying out inquiries into this to find out who has done this, and why.

“We have had no reported crimes linked to the locations of the buttons and at this stage we think that it could be some kind of prank or marketing activity. We are making inquiries in the local area to establish this so we can let people know why this is being done.”

Inspector Brotherton also addressed concerns that the buttons were linked to planned crime, particularly burglary.

He said:

“As a precaution, we have extra officers carrying out patrols in the areas where these buttons have turned up until we know why this has happened.

“We don’t believe there is any increased risk of burglaries or crimes in the affected areas however we’d like to remind people, especially students, about how important crime prevention is.

“Make sure doors and windows are locked and secure and that all valuables are kept somewhere safe and not left in plain view near windows or in the car.”

Anyone with information on the buttons is asked to contact police on 101.

Satanic Image Appears On Darlington Pub Wall (Alledgedly…)

Devil's in the detail as pub landlord spots hellish figure on wall

A pub landlord says an image that has appeared on the pub walls is that of the Devil.

Regulars at The Three Crowns, in Sun Street, Darlington, have been hellbent on taking pictures of the strange image and telling their friends about it ever since it appeared earlier this year.

George Jenkinson said:

“This has been a pub since 1885 and I have been coming in here for 50 years and nobody has ever seen anything like it before.

“It is definitely the shape of the Devil, you can see the two horns and the chin.”

The image, which is thought to have been caused by damp, appeared on a wall near the toilets and overlooks the pub pool table and dart board.

Mr Jenkinson was a taxi driver for 40 years before retiring in 2012 and now helps wife Michelle run the old-style street corner boozer, which is more usually famed for its rabbit pie tucked into by drinkers on lunchtimes.

He said: “I’m not reading anything into it. It is just weird. Damp doesn’t usually come up that high.

“It’s drying out now but if it is damp it’s probably pointless painting it over.”
