1885 – D. H. Lawrence born. English novelist, poet, playwright, essayist, literary critic and painter . His collected works represent an extended reflection upon the dehumanising effects of modernity and industrialisation, in which  confronts issues relating to emotional health and vitality, spontaneity, and instinct.

1987 – Peter Tosh died. Jamaican reggae musician who was a core member of the band The Wailers (1963–1974), and who afterwards had a successful solo career as well as being a promoter of Rastafari. He was murdered at his home during a robbery.
