St. Rose of Lima’s Day.
Patron saint of Peruvian nurses. A specialist niche, but someone had to colonize it.

1305 – Scottish patriot and hero William Wallace hanged, drawn and quartered in London. Quarters were then sent to Newcastle, Berwick, Stirling and Perth.

1926 – Rudolph Valentino died. Italian actor, and  early pop icon. A sex symbol of the 1920s, Valentino starred in several well-known silent films including The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, The Sheik, Blood and Sand, The Eagle and Son of the Sheik.
His sudden death at age 31 caused mass hysteria among his female fans, further propelling him into icon status.
